eSIM Compatibility: Everything You Need to Know
eSIM compatibility depends on two things: your device must support eSIM hardware, and it must be carrier-unlocked. Most smartphones released after 2019 meet both requirements. Use the search tool above to check your specific model, or dial *#06# on your phone if an EID number appears, your device has eSIM compatibility confirmed.
iPhone eSIM Compatibility
iPhone eSIM compatibility starts with the iPhone XS, XR, and all newer models. Every iPhone from iPhone 11 through the iPhone 17 series supports eSIM. iPhone 15 and newer models are eSIM-only in the USA they ship without a physical SIM tray. Outside the USA, all recent iPhones support Dual SIM (one physical SIM + one eSIM). To check iPhone eSIM compatibility: go to Settings > General > About if you see an EID number, your iPhone is eSIM compatible.
Samsung Galaxy eSIM Compatibility
Samsung Galaxy eSIM compatibility starts with the Galaxy S20 series. All Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, and S25 models support eSIM. The Z Fold and Z Flip foldable series also have full eSIM compatibility from Z Fold 2 and Z Flip 3 onwards. Some Galaxy A series mid-range models also support eSIM check the specific model in the compatibility list above.
Android eSIM Compatibility – Other Brands
Android eSIM compatibility varies significantly by manufacturer and region. Google Pixel phones have full eSIM compatibility from the Pixel 3 onwards. Xiaomi, OnePlus, Sony Xperia, Motorola Edge and Razr series all support eSIM on recent flagship models. Budget and mid-range Android models from these brands may not have eSIM compatibility always check your specific model using the tool above or the *#06# method.
Carrier-Unlocked Requirement for eSIM Compatibility
Even if your device has eSIM compatibility, it must also be carrier-unlocked to use a Revo eSIM plan. Phones purchased directly from Apple, Samsung, or Google are usually sold unlocked. Phones purchased through a mobile carrier on a contract may be locked to that carrier. To check: try inserting a different carrier’s SIM if it works, your phone is unlocked. On iPhone, go to Settings > General > About and look for “No SIM restrictions” under Carrier Lock.
eSIM Compatibility FAQ
How do I check eSIM compatibility on any phone?
Dial *#06# on your phone’s keypad. If an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number appears on screen alongside your IMEI number, your phone has eSIM compatibility. If only IMEI numbers appear without an EID, your phone does not support eSIM. This method works on all iPhone and Android models regardless of manufacturer.
Does eSIM compatibility mean I can use any eSIM provider?
Yes, as long as your phone is also carrier-unlocked. eSIM compatibility is hardware-based if your device supports the eSIM standard, it can use any GSMA-certified eSIM provider including Revo eSIM. The only exception is phones that are locked to a specific carrier, which may restrict which eSIM profiles can be installed.
My phone is on the compatibility list but my eSIM is not installing – why?
The most common cause is that the phone is carrier-locked. Even with eSIM hardware compatibility, a locked phone may reject eSIM profiles from other providers. Contact your home carrier to request an unlock. Other causes: the QR code has already been scanned (eSIM QR codes are single-use), or the phone’s software needs updating. Can I have multiple eSIMs on one phone?
Yes. Most eSIM-compatible phones can store multiple eSIM profiles but only activate one or two at a time. iPhone 13 and newer can have up to 8 eSIM profiles stored. Samsung Galaxy S21 and newer support multiple stored eSIMs. You can switch between eSIM profiles in Settings without rescanning a QR code useful for travelers who visit the same destinations repeatedly.
